Scott Sonksen

In 1986, Scott graduated from Des Moines Area Community College’s Tool and Die program and moved to the Minneapolis area to work in reputable die job shops. By 1996, Scott was one of the top paid designers in the area and held a position as Senior Tool Designer at a top die shop. A long-time user of Cadkey software, he also became proficient in surface modeling and CNC programming using MasterCam.
Scott moved on to a large production stamping facility in the Silicon Valley area in California in 1996 to become the Tool Design Supervisor/Tool Coordinator. He developed a comprehensive training program and enjoyed working on many high-profile projects, while personally designing the more complicated tools for the company. The experience he gained as a Tool Buyer added to his versatility in the trade.
In 1999, Scott moved back to the Midwest to work as a Lead Die Designer for a large tooling and automation company in Missouri. This company gave him experience on transfer tooling and draw tooling using Unigraphics software, along with some exposure to the automation side of the engineering company. By 2002, he had moved into a Sales Engineer role, specializing in Tool and Die accounts. This position has been invaluable to Scott’s career, giving him exposure to the industry across the nation and the skills to tap into them.

Gary McGarvey

Gary began his career under the guiding hand of his father at McGarvey Tool and Die in Dayton, Ohio. By the time his apprenticeship was completed in 1985, he had gained skills equal to veteran journeyman toolmakers. Gary worked in a number of die shops around the Dayton area where he honed his skills in complex progressive dies, tight tolerance work and difficult troubleshooting.
In 1990, he joined a division of GE Aircraft Engines as a lead tool and die maker, building low production tools for the complex aerospace industry. In 1995, Gary was promoted to the position of Die Design Group Leader. It was there where he learned to use Unigraphics software to generate tooling to fabricate the high temperature metal parts. He supervised over five designers and worked closely with the product design group.
In 1997, Gary came to Missouri to work as a Lead Die Designer. He soon became a important member of their operations and was promoted to the position of Advanced Die Designer in 2000. Gary became proficient in designing larger dies and fixtures commonly found in the appliance, heavy truck, agricultural, and automotive industries.
